Tutoring - Music Lessons - Online Classes

Education Express is locally owned and operated by Brigitte and David Issel along with their daughter, Marie.

Education Express offers one-on-one tutoring, music instruction, and small classes in our large, friendly classroom, located in El Dorado. We also offer in-home tutoring, on-site classes, and online classes. Tutoring is available in all elementary, middle, and high school subjects as well as most college subjects. We prepare students for standardized tests including the CAT/6, GED, High School Exit Exam, SAT I and II, ACT, CBEST, GRE, MSAT, and LSAT. Additionally, we offer music lessons to students of all ages and levels.

A Simple Approach

At Education Express, we help students succeed in school by giving them the personal and individualized attention they need.

First, we utilize only the best and most qualified instructors. Most of our tutors and course instructors have teaching credentials and/or advanced degrees and professional experience in the subjects that they tutor.

Then, we tailor our approach to each individual student. Our classroom is quiet, our tutoring sessions are one-on-one, and our small classes contain eight students or less. This translates into real learning. We can teach the students concepts, skills, and techniques they may have missed in the traditional classroom.

Music Instruction

Academic tutoring is not the only thing going on at Education Express. If your child or you have ever wanted to learn to play an instrument, now is the time!

Education Express offers on-site and in-home music instruction for the following instruments: Piano, Keyboard, Voice, Guitar, Electric Bass, Banjo, Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Bassoon, Obo, Trumpet, Trombone, Drums & Percussion, and Cello. Students may sign-up for private music lessons or small classes.

One of our Music instructors, Michael Krikorian, is a credentialed music teacher who also holds a Master of Arts degree in Music. He says, “I would be happy to be your Music teacher at Education Express. Come on in and learn to play a musical instrument!”

In-Home Tutoring

If you are too busy or live too far away to come to us, our tutors will come to you! Education Express offers the same quality, one-on-one tutoring in the comfort of your own home, office, or local library. This is the perfect option for people with busy schedules. We have tutors available in the counties of El Dorado, Sacramento, Amador, Calaveras, and Tuolumne.

Online Classes

For students outside of our geographical area (or for those who simply love the computer), we offer courses in our online classroom. Imagine taking a class at 2:00 in the morning or 3:00 in the afternoon. The Internet makes it possible for you to decide when class starts and when class ends (and you don't have to raise your hand to use the restroom.)

Vicky Gray is an online instructor for Education Express. In addition to having earned a Master of Arts degree in German, Vicky holds California teaching credentials in English, History, German, and Spanish. She enjoys teaching online because “Students are free to express themselves and not be embarrassed. The online forum allows a shy student to participate to the same degree as an extrovert.”

Nicholas Clark, a ninth grade Horizon Instructional Systems student, is currently enrolled in a Creative Writing course in Education Express’ online classroom. Nicholas explains that he enjoys the experience because, “it gives you a great deal of freedom about what to write, allows you to decide when to work, and does not force you to certain time constraints.”

Next fall we are offering online courses in Creative Writing, Essay Writing, and Journalism. All classes are taught by a teacher credentialed in the course subject. This is an excellent opportunity for “home-schooled” students as many public charter schools will pay for tutoring and on-site or online classes!

On-Site Classes

In addition to the online classes, this Fall, Education Express will offer elementary, junior high, and high school courses in our El Dorado classroom. Classes will include Math Games, America the Beautiful, Fun with Spanish, Fun with French, Fun with German, and Music Classes. Students will learn through hands-on activities that tap into many different learning styles. They will participate in interactive lessons by singing songs, operating computer software, drawing artwork, and playing learning games. Class sizes are limited to eight students. Classes are taught by teachers who have credentials and experience in the courses’ subjects.

Our Students and Their Families

Education Express’ philosophy is that our tutors are a support system for our students and their families. When a student shows improvement in his or her grades and self esteem, then all of us have done our jobs! We love to hear success stories and see students feeling better about themselves and their studies. This leads to an enjoyment of the process of lifelong learning.

Jim and Debbie Ray share their family’s experience. “We moved to the area in 2001 and both of our sons were struggling in their new school. At the beginning of the 2002/2003 school year, we started Jeff and Jon with tutoring at Education Express. Our sons’ grades have improved tremendously. They get one-on-one attention, which helps them understand the subject matter, and are learning study skills along with good time management.” Jeff, an eighth grade student at Camerado Springs Middle School, adds, “Brigitte and Dave have given me tools to become focused on my homework assignments and my grades have improved in all areas. I enjoy coming to Education Express.”

Wayne and Judy Pease bring their 6th grade son and 5th grade daughter to Education Express for Math tutoring and Music instruction. They comment, “We are so pleased with the progress that Travis and Dedra have made. Now, they look forward to doing their homework!”
